Fluorite with Cinnabar & selenite Oxide
from Weishan Antimony Mine, Yunnan, China
This distinctive mineral specimen from Yunnan Weishan Antimony Mine features transparent fluorite crystal clusters as the matrix, coated with a thin vermilion cinnabar film. The yellow inclusions on the crystals are secondary oxides formed by stibnite oxidation. Some fluorite surfaces also display iridescent rainbow oxide films, creating a stunning interplay of red, yellow and crystal‑clear hues.
Its formation involves multi‑stage hydrothermal mineralization and subsequent oxidation processes: fluorite cubic crystals precipitated first from ore‑forming fluids; mercury‑bearing hydrothermal fluids then deposited cinnabar as thin films on fluorite surfaces. With weathering and oxidation, stibnite transformed into yellow oxides, while some fluorite surfaces developed iridescent films. This rare assemblage holds both high ornamental value and geological
